The mention European Doctorate can be added to the final
award when the following conditions are met:
1) The defence of the thesis (viva voce) is preceded by affirmative
reports written by at least two doctors currently employed at tertiary
education institutions in two member countries of the European Union
other than Spain.
2) At least one member of the thesis tribunal is affiliated with
a tertiary education institution in an EU country other than Spain.
This member should not be one of the authors of the above reports.
3) Part of the thesis defence must be carried out in an official
EU language other than Spanish.
4) Part of the thesis research must have been carried out during
a stay in another EU country. This stay should be for a period of
at least three months. The stay should be certified by a letter
from the director of the non-Spanish institution, presented by the
director of the thesis.
FOR EXAMPLE:
A German student who wants to work on translator education might
decide to write the thesis in English and defend it in Tarragona.
They might ask Don Kiraly to supervise the thesis. In this case,
they would have to:
1) Find two people, anywhere in the EU other than Spain, to write
affirmative reports on the thesis (this would normally not include
the supervisor of the thesis).
2) Find one person, anywhere in Europe other than Spain, to be a
member of the thesis tribunal (this would not normally include the
two people who write the above reports).
3) Do part of the defence (viva) in English or German (we would
like it all to be in English, though).
4) Spend at least three months in doing research in Germany (or
any other European country apart from Spain), and have a letter
of some kind to show that this has been done.
