Translation - Technology - Training

Digital technologies have changed the translation profession for good: it affects the way translators seek information, produce the translation, contact their customers and get paid.

Translator training institutions are now challenged by the market, which demands not only linguistically accurate and culturally aware professionals, but also technically competent translators who can keep a global view on the project needs of today's digitized world.

This seminar aims at developing technical competence on market-demanded tools, and discussing the impact of new technologies in the profession and in the classroom. The seminar activities will be based on the experiences, interests and needs of the participants.

José-Ramón Biau-Gil is a translator and teacher born and based in Tarragona, on the Mediterranian coast of Spain. As a translator, he participates regularly in large translation and localization projects, and he also works for small local customers. At the Rovira i Virgili University he teaches translation and technology both face-to-face and online, in the postgraduate courses in translation organized by the Intercultural Studies Group in Tarragona (Spain).

The Intercultural Studies Group carries out research on mediation between cultures, particularly with respect to new technologies. More information about the group current activities and publications is available here: http://isg.urv.es.

This is a free activity for all faculty and student body at FASK, funded by the Erasmus Exchange Agreement between the Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz and the Rovira i Virgili University.
